Who I Am
I’m Coach Josh Wood. I live in Tasmania and I’ve spent the last 15 years working at the intersection of strength training, combat sports, and real-world demands.
My background includes competing in powerlifting, boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and strongman, working as a wilderness guide, and coaching people who need strength that holds up under pressure — whether that’s on the mats, on the job, or in everyday life.
I speak and write about practical approaches to training and habits that actually fit around real constraints like shift work, recovery, family, and injury history.
Public Speaking and Thought Leadership
I speak on topics that matter to people who are already doing hard things and want to keep doing them well for as long as possible.
Common topics include:
Building strength that carries over to sport, work, and real life
Creating habits that last instead of chasing short-term fixes
Training around real constraints like shift work, recovery, family, and injury history
Practical nutrition that doesn’t require perfection
Notable work:
TEDx Talk: Six Steps to Eat Like an Adult
Co-author of Macro Masala cookbook
Regular podcast appearances on training, nutrition, parenting, and performance
If you need a speaker who brings grounded, no-hype perspectives rather than generic motivation, I’d be happy to talk.
Here’s my TEDx talk:

Background and Expertise
15+ years coaching for strength and performance
Competitive background in powerlifting, boxing, BJJ, archery, and strongman
Former wilderness guide
Bachelor of Health Science and Graduate Certificate in Strength & Conditioning
Founder of Strong for Life Online Coaching
I’ve worked with tactical athletes, law enforcement, military personnel, combat sports athletes, busy professionals, and of course time poor parents who need training that respects the realities of their lives.
The Personal Side
I live in Tasmania with my wife and two young boys. Being a dad is the most important job I have, and it heavily influences how I think about strength, recovery, and what actually matters in life.
I spent years as an avid backpacker and working as a wilderness guide. That connection to the outdoors is still a big part of who I am. You’ll often find me hiking, camping, or working on projects around our house and yard when I’m not coaching, speaking, or mentoring new personal trainers.
I don’t believe in separating “work life” from “real life”. The way I approach training and habits comes from the same place as how I try to show up as a husband and father — practical, consistent, and built to last (even if the kids have been keeping me up at night).
