JOSH WOOD

Educator. Online Fitness Coach. Public Speaker.

Coach Josh grew up in Minnesota and Nebraska, and also spent some time living in Melbourne and British Columbia. He met his wife when they were backpacking in the UK, and then followed her back to Australia. They moved to Tasmania, where we now live with their two sons.

Tassie’s a great place to call home – and Josh is always going on about his love of the fresh air, the fresh food, and the wilderness that’s only moments away from his front door. He will lose himself in the mountains* as often as possible and loves to tell stories of his work as a wilderness guide and play tour guide whenever people come to visit.

Hey folks. I’m Josh

I entered the fitness industry in 2009 when I started coaching Mixed Martial Arts. From that beginning point, I’ve broadened my skills and experience to include certifications and qualifications in personal training, massage, health science, complementary medicine, coaching and education.

I’ve competed in boxing, powerlifting, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, traditional archery, strongman and some other things I can’t quite remember. I spent 6-years teaching massage therapy in Melbourne and several years teaching Cert III & IV qualifications in Fitness in Tasmania. I still like to work with upcoming trainers and coaches whenever I can!

As a wilderness guide, I’ve interacted with many adventure sport athletes who (like any athlete) put their bodies under intense strain. Working and spending time with backpackers (as well as being one myself) has taught me the importance and value of a well-structured training program that improves performance and reduces injury rates, which is why I offer Backpacking and Hiking Training as one of my services.

I also enjoy exploring new opportunities and ways of changing up my fitness routines, like incorporating steel mace training into my workouts, and keeping an eye out for other new opportunities.

That said, the way I train isn’t necessarily going to be the way I train you. For you, training is all about getting you to your goals in the most consistent and sustainable way possible.
